Objective

Current literature suggests there is a potential for real-time feedback to be an efficacious tool in the rehabilitation and treatment of knee OA. However, there is paucity in the literature specifically involving OA patients, strengthening exercises, and whether the addition of a real-time feedback tool results in greater improvements in function and reductions in pain and progress of disease than a standard rehabilitation protocol. Therefore the purpose of this randomized control trial is to determine the efficacy of adding RTF to a rehabilitation protocol consisting of lower-limb strengthening and gait retraining, compared with rehabilitation without real-time biofeedback, on gait biomechanics, measures of pain and function and the progression of the pathology using biomarkers from joint synovial fluid.
