Summary:
We’ve recently completed a study looking at optimal rehabilitation for runners with IT band syndrome. Click here for the rehab protocol and click here to see the abstract we presented on the initial 9 subjects enrolled in this study at the 2012 American College of Sports Medicine Annual Meeting. Overall, 23 of 23 runners were pain-free after the 6-week strengthening and stretching protocol. Interestingly, there were no changes in IT flexibility, nor did the runners with IT band syndrome have tight IT bands compared to healthy runners. They did, however, have a 20-25% increase in muscle strength.
