Date

May 2012 – April 2013

Objective

The purpose of this research is to determine whether gait data collected by a single accelerometer, validated against a 3D motion capture system, can classify iliotibial band friction syndrome (ITBFS) patients and control subjects based on kinematic gait variables using a support vector machine (SVM) algorithm. Sixty healthy and 60 injured participants will be recruited through the AUT Running Mechanics Clinic and another 60 ITBS and 60 controls will be recruited through the Running Injury Clinic at the University of Calgary.
